Man Takes Incredible Ski Journey Through Toronto After Snowstorm, Goes Viral

Toronto Snowstorm

If you haven't been watching the Weather Channel (or stepped outside) in several days, you should know that the polar vortex is back with a vengeance. Many parts of the Northeast and Midwest are experiencing record-breaking lows in temperature, and the arctic front is expected to last well into the week.

The #PolarVortex is triggering the coldest arctic outbreak in at least two decades this week in parts of the Midwest:

After two weeks of snow, temperatures in Chicago plummeted to to -23 degrees on Wednesday morning, with wind chills as low as -50 degrees below, leading many residents to rename the area "Chiberia."

And, up north, subzero temperatures caused Niagara Falls to literally freeze over last week.

I personally believe that Niagara Falls is the most beautiful during the winter time. Everything is completely frozen. Oh and I'm heading back to Iceland to chase the northern lights in less than 2 weeks with @bretblakelyphotography and @djanker!! . . . . . . . . #modernoutdoors #eclectic_shotz #adventurethatislife #niagarafalls #hashtagstepoutbuffalo #travelbuf #onebuffalo #buffalo #buffalony #earth_shotz #eclectic_shotz #wayfarecollective #modernoutdoors #exploretocreate #welivetoexplore #iloveny #nystateparks #canada #tourcanada #parkscanada #folkgreen #folkscenery #wildernesstones #goneoutdoors #thevisualcollective #scenicny

The current weather conditions are no laughing matter, and millions of people are being encouraged to stay inside in order to avoid hypothermia and frostbite. That being said, it's nice to see that at least one person is making the best of the fact that the area he lives in currently resembles Hoth from Star Wars.

On Monday night, Toronto Star columnist Shawn Micallef strapped on his skis and hit the streets of Toronto after a major snowstorm.

Ski anywhere night.

The snow was pretty deep, but he had the right equipment on him and was appropriately bundled up.

Took the alleys to Grange Park. There's the Henry Moore. In the wrong spot but still pretty. Snow deep. Very hot. Overdressed! Frank Gehry California ski.

— Shawn Micallef (@shawnmicallef) January 29, 2019

As a result, he got the whole city all to himself for the night.

I am the only person skiing at city hall. There is room for more, you guys.

— Shawn Micallef (@shawnmicallef) January 29, 2019

"This is the most beautiful thing I've ever done," he wrote of his adventure.

Ski van der Rohe – this is the most beautiful thing I've ever done.

After all, with snow comes peace and tranquility.

And the photos he managed to capture are simply out of this world.

And, hey, someone even caught a little footage of him skiing away.

Now, of course, we wouldn't recommend you try this yourself unless you're an extremely experienced skier, but it's certainly nice to check out his images from the warmth and comfort of your own home.

Stay safe out there, folks! And if you think your town is freezing, check out these mind-blowing photos from the coldest place on Earth.
